For the first time in 1830, Polish researcher Alexander Shudzko Khechko, while researching Gilan, noticed the Rudkhan Castle and recorded the location of the building in his notes. He writes about Rudkhan Castle: "It is a fortress on the top of a mountain in the upper part of a river of the same name, its roof is made of stone and the entrance sides have two strong defensive towers. From 918 to 921 AH, it was rebuilt for Sultan Hussam al-Din Amirdabaj ibn Amir Aladdin Ishaq.

Rudkhan Castle is located 20 km southwest of Fooman. The area of Rudkhan Castle is over 50,000 square meters and is located at an altitude of more than 600 meters at the highest point of the mountain. To reach Rudkhan Castle, after passing through the city of Fooman and passing through the villages of Gasht, Kordam Haleh, Siahkash, Shams Talan, Goran Pas, Holmes Kam, Seyedabad and Rudkhan Castle, we reach Heidaralat village, which is about 5 km from this village to Rudkhan Castle. Rudkhan Castle consists of two parts: Arg (the residence of the ruler and his harem) and Qorkhaneh (the place of military activities and the life of the soldiers). From the village of Qala-e Rudkhan to Qala-e-Nature itself, there is a very beautiful nature and many landscapes that attract the attention of every viewer. The area of Rudkhan Castle is over 50,000 square meters. Rudkhan Castle is an important heritage of government military fortresses in Gilan. Rudkhan Castle, this important historical castle, which has long been the center of Gilan's rulers, is one of the largest and most majestic military forts in Gilan and even Iran. Some experts have attributed the Rudkhan Castle Foundation to the Sassanid period. Rudkhan Castle was rebuilt during the Seljuk period and was considered one of the Ismaili militant bases.

Because this historic castle is built next to a river, the ancient equivalent of "Rudgan Fortress" or "Rogan" (a fortress located next to the river) or its alteration is called Rudkhan Castle. The castle is called Rakhun Peak in the language of the locals who are trying. Then, over time, it has become a "river castle". Rudkhan Castle has also been called "Hazarpoleh Castle", "Hesami", "Sexar", "Segsar" and "Segsal" in historical periods.
